Welcome to SkyDropJa, operated by SkyDrop Courier (“we,” “our,” or “us”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal data in an open and transparent manner.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use our website (skydropja.com), our mobile application, and our freight forwarding services (collectively, the “Services”). This policy is in accordance with Jamaica’s Data Protection Act (JDPA).

By using our Services, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

To provide you with our Services, we need to collect certain information. This includes:

a) Personal Identification Information:

  • Contact Details: Your first name, last name, email address, and phone number.
  • Government-Issued Identifier: Your Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN), which is required for customs clearance processes in Jamaica.
  • Address Information: Your physical street address, city, and parish for billing and contact purposes.

b) Account & Security Information:

  • Credentials: Your password, which is always stored in a secure, hashed format. We never see or store your plain-text password.
  • Referral Data: Your unique referral code and, if applicable, the referral code of the user who referred you.

c) Shipment & Financial Information:

  • Package Details: Information about your packages, including shipper tracking numbers, vendor/store of purchase, courier name, item descriptions, and declared values.
  • Uploaded Documents: Invoices or other documents you upload for pre-alerts or customs purposes. These are stored securely on our servers.
  • Payment Information: When you make a payment, the transaction is processed by our third-party payment provider (WiPay). We do not collect or store your full credit or debit card numbers. We only store a record of the transaction, including the amount, date, and payment method used.
  • Wallet Transactions: A detailed ledger of all credits (top-ups, referral rewards) and debits (payments for services) made using your SkyDropJa wallet.

d) Authorized User Information:

  • If you add an authorized person to collect packages on your behalf, we collect their first name, last name, and any optional ID information you provide.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following legitimate business purposes:

  • To Provide and Manage Our Services: To create and maintain your account, generate your unique US shipping address (SKY Number), and manage your shipments.
  • To Process Shipments: To receive packages on your behalf, calculate fees, generate invoices, and facilitate customs clearance. Your TRN and uploaded invoices are used specifically for this purpose as required by Jamaican law.
  • To Process Payments: To charge for services rendered and manage your wallet balance.
  • For Communication: To send you essential transactional notifications about your account and packages via email (using Amazon SES) and WhatsApp.
  • For Customer Support: To assist you with your inquiries through our live chat service (Chatwoot). When you interact with our support, your account details (name, email, SKY number) are used to identify you and provide context.
  • To Manage Our Referral Program: To track successful referrals and credit your wallet with earned rewards.
  • For Security and Compliance: To protect against fraud, verify user identity (via email verification and Google Sign-in), and comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We only share your information with trusted third-party partners as necessary to provide our Services:

  • Customs and Border Agencies: We are legally required to share information about your packages, including your name, TRN, and the contents of your uploaded invoices, with the Jamaica Customs Agency for clearance.
  • Payment Processors: We share transaction details (like your name, email, and the amount) with WiPay to securely process your payments.
  • Service Providers: We use third-party services for specific functions, including Amazon SES for sending emails, and Chatwoot for providing customer support. We only share the minimum information necessary for them to perform their function.

5. Data Security

We take the security of your data seriously and implement a range of measures to protect it, including:

  • Using SSL/TLS encryption to secure all data transmitted between your browser and our servers.
  • Hashing all passwords to ensure they are never stored in a readable format.
  • Implementing strict access controls to limit our staff’s access to your personal information on a need-to-know basis.
  • Securely storing all uploaded documents on our servers.

6. Your Data Rights

In accordance with the JDPA, you have the right to:

  • Access and Update: Access and update your personal information at any time through your Profile page.
  • Manage Authorized Users: Add, edit, or remove authorized collectors through your dashboard.
  • Account Deletion: Request the closure and deletion of your account by contacting our support team. Please note that we may be required to retain certain financial and shipment data for a period to comply with legal obligations.
